We’re hiring our ‘One Health’ librarian team

By February 18, 2026No Comments

The Health Sciences Library (HSL) is launching a search for two librarian positions to work together as a team to provide core librarian expertise to two health sciences colleges and schools at the University of Minnesota.

The ‘One Health’ concept

There are important connections between public health and veterinary medicine as disciplines. This connection has been coined the ‘One Health’ approach. As human interactions continue to disrupt the natural world, researchers at the University of Minnesota are monitoring changes to the health of people, domestic and wild animals, and the environment. These actions will have deep impacts on protecting human, animal, and environmental health in the years to come.

The ‘One Health’ librarian team

We envision that our two ‘One Health’ librarians who will work closely as a team to partner with faculty, staff, and students in the School of Public Health (SPH) and the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). Librarians in the Health Sciences Library provide expertise as expert searchers for literature searches and for systematic, scoping, and other levels of evidence-synthesis. They instruct students on evidence-based practice skills in courses in partnership with faculty, and they consult with faculty, staff, and students on a wide range of health information topics such as research question formulation, database searching, identifying potential journals for publication and more.

“We’ve used a liaison team for our work with the Medical School, and we’ve seen that team flourish with mutually supporting one another as they work with our biggest health sciences program,” said Lisa McGuire, Associate Director for Education and Research Services in HSL. “We knew that a team approach could also provide the same dividends with the diverse disciplinary methods within public health and veterinary medicine.”

Our commitment to our staff

Our culture at HSL is one based on a strong commitment to work-life balance and ongoing professional support. New librarians at HSL are supported through deep mentoring, collaborative onboarding, and a commitment to professional development over the course of their employment at the Libraries.
