Finals Week Hours and Stressbuster Activities

The University Libraries will offer “distraction-free” studying for finals that includes extended hours in our buildings, as well as stress-reducing activities.

Use our spaces, our computers, our coffee shops, get help when you need it, and take a break with our awesome activities.

Open 24/7 from May 2 to May 16

Study Break Activities:

Puzzles, Crafts, Legos, Origami, and more in the Great Hall (2nd floor):

  • Group crossword puzzles (Professor Barany’s crossword puzzles)
  • Individual Sudoku puzzles
  • Puzzles set up throughout second floor
  • Coloring activity
  • Free books

Extended Hours:

Open until midnight May 9 to May 16 and extended study area until 2:00 a.m.

Study Break Activities

  • May 6, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Pop your stress away! Grab a sheet of bubble wrap and take out your stress in a positive manner. Grab a cup of coffee and settle in for your last week of classes with Magrath Library.
  • May 7,  11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Destress with personalized aromatherapy sachets at the St. Paul Student Center (or Ruttan Hall as a rain back-up).
  • May 8,  11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Relieve some stress by getting your hands dirty by planting Bachelor’s Buttons to take home. Join Magrath Library and the Hort Club at the St. Paul Student Center (or Ruttan Hall as a rain back-up; while supplies last).
  • May 12-16 – The Natural Resources Library will be offering free, freshly brewed coffee and tea. Grab a cup and study for your finals with us! Treats will also be provided on Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16.

Stress-Buster Events on Tuesday and Wednesday May 13-14, 2nd floor tunnel entrance to Bio-Medical Library:

  • May 13 & May 14, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Jumbo crossword puzzles (2nd Floor)
  • May 13 & May 14, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – Chair Massage (Tunnel Entrance vestibule)
  • May 13 & May 14, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. – Cookies and beverages (2nd Floor)
  • May 13 & May 14, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Tea time treats in the Wangensteen Library – Visit the Downton Abbey Exhibit (5th Floor Diehl Hall)
  • May 13 & May 14, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. – Animal Therapy with Gabe (registered therapy dog, 2nd Floor Tunnel Entrance vestibule)

  • May 7, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Take a study break and recharge your creative side with origami, make a button, coffee, snacks and more at the Wilson Library lobby (1st floor).
  • Throughout finals take a break with crossword puzzles, board games, recreational reading and more.

Prepare for finals by connecting with other students for tutoring and review workshops! Check the schedule of review workshops.

  • May 3, 1:00-5:00 p.m. – Cram for finals at Exam Jam in 204 Walter Library (hosted by the SMART Learning Commons).
  • May 10, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. – Cram for finals at Exam Jam in 140 Appleby Hall (hosted by the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence).

  • The Gopher Chauffeur is a free transportation service that promotes safety in the campus community by providing University of Minnesota students with safe rides home. We operate from 10:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The service is open to all University of Minnesota-Twin Cities students. Gopher Chauffeur drivers, navigators, and dispatchers are hired by Boynton Health Service. All employees are University of Minnesota-Twin Cities students who are CPR certified and trained in first aid. Please call 612-388-6911 for a ride.
