The National Park Service turns 100 on August 25! Now is a great time to celebrate that milestone by checking out our collection of wildlife-oriented material at the Wangensteen Historical Library of Biology and Medicine.

The images below are from the Wangensteen’s copy of Wild Animals of Glacier National Park (1918).

Author Vernon Bailey grew up in Elk River, Minnesota where he cultivated an interest in natural history (Zahniser, 1942). Bailey went on to become Chief Field Naturalist for the Bureau of Biological Survey, United States Department of Agriculture.

Bailey co-authored this book with his wife Florence Merriam Bailey —  a noted ornithologist and nature writer — recording these animals in beautiful Glacier National Park.
