We are very fortunate to have the University of Minnesota Libraries, one of the University’s and the state’s greatest intellectual assets, in our community. It is a resource that the Friends of the Libraries is committed to sharing with people interested in the arts, sciences, environment, government, medicine, food, and technology. Everyone — from student to retiree both near and far — benefits from the Libraries’ collections, archives, and librarians.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 2019-20 season of the Friends of the Libraries. We are especially excited to welcome new and returning members.

Our board members have been working hard to create scintillating events for this year’s Friends Forum: A Series for Curious Minds. Members receive invitations to all events, which are either free or have reduced fees for members. No matter where you live, you can enjoy our programs via video recordings posted on our website. Mark your calendars to join us!

  • Gotta Minute? (for Silly but Serious Science about the Environment) — October 14, 2019
  • The Secret Life of Libraries: An evening of radio antics with Sue Scott, Tim Russell and
Richard Dworsky (with special offer to Friends members) — December 9, 2019
  • A Feast of Words with Ananya Chatterjee: Dancing For the Constitution — January 30, 2020
  • Pankake Poetry Series with Wang Pang: My Name Is Immigrant — April 2, 2020
  • Friends of the Libraries Annual Celebration: Details forthcoming

The best part of being connected to the Friends of the Libraries is the people you meet.
We are an engaged group of curious minds who care about the intellectual and cultural
resources of our community and we share an interest in seeking to better understand
the wider world which is reflected in our thoughtfully curated programming.

It takes resources to keep the University Libraries at the leading edge of knowledge. With
less than two years left of the University’s “Driven” campaign, the Libraries $18 million goal is within reach.

I hope you’ll consider joining the Friends of the Libraries members and other supporters in contributing to the campaign and ensuring that our award-winning University Libraries thrives and remains at the heart of higher education and a resource open to all.

Information on the many ways to give to the University Libraries can be found on page 14 of this insert.

Welcome aboard!
