In noting the beauty of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, reporter Rachel Hutton notes: “Much less well known is the arboretum library’s rare collection of hardwood-crafted furniture, designed by the late George Nakashima, which makes the reading spaces feel rather like the outside has come indoors.”

The furniture, of course, is part the Andersen Horticultural Library and was featured in Hutton’s April 27 Star Tribune article, “Nature Preserve,” which also was notable for beautiful photography by the Star Trib’s Elizabeth Flores.

Hutton spent half a day at the Horticultural Library earlier this year during “Miserable Day,” an annual undertaking by staff and volunteers who spend the day wiping the furniture free of dust and grime and then re-oiling the surfaces.

George Nakashima was commissioned by former Gov. Elmer Andersen and his wife, Eleanor, to furnish the library in the early 1970s.
