UMN Libraries joins the Digital Preservation Coalition

The University of Minnesota Libraries is now an associate member of the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), an international charitable foundation which supports digital preservation.

The DPC helps its members around the world to deliver resilient long-term access to digital content and services through community engagement, targeted advocacy work, training and workforce development, capacity building, good practice and standards, and through good management and governance. Its vision is a secure digital legacy.

The mission of the University of Minnesota Libraries is to expand access to information, strengthen research and teaching, and enrich communities throughout the U.S. state of Minnesota, the region, and the world. Providing this level of access to the University’s collections, the Libraries team considers it essential that robust, long-term, sustainable plans are created for their care and preservation – including digital collections.

“The University of Minnesota Libraries has long admired and drawn on the work of the DPC and we are excited to now be joining this important organization in an official capacity,” explains Carol Kussmann, Digital Preservation Analyst at University of Minnesota Libraries. “As more of our partner organizations continue to affirm the value in advancing digital preservation policy and programs it is important that we, too, engage the DPC to share our thoughts, ask our questions, and learn alongside others to advance the mission of digital preservation.”

The University of Minnesota Libraries joins a growing DPC community with 169 members in 24 countries around the world. Having recently expanded its global presence to the Americas, the DPC and its extended network will offer access to good practice and excellence in digital preservation from around the world, for the benefit of the University of Minnesota Libraries and the whole of the DPC membership.

Anna Perricci, Head of DPC Americas, welcomed the University of Minnesota Libraries to the Coalition, stating: “As active members of the digital preservation community across the USA, we are excited to engage with and learn from colleagues in Minnesota in an official capacity, as they continue to build and mature their own digital preservation program.”
