Annie Hoffman here, Student Journalist for the libraries. Here’s what I have been up to this week!

I attended a Zoom meeting led by dance department faculty to discuss what dance classes might look like for fall semester. The meeting was also a welcome opportunity to connect with my fellow dance majors, including incoming first-year students who are entering the program at such an interesting moment. I look forward to taking class with old friends and new, in person and via Zoom, this fall.

Exploring honors thesis topics

As an incoming fourth-year student, I’ve started brainstorming potential topics for my Honors thesis. I am beginning my explorations with the library research guides. These guides are lists of recommended resources created by librarians to help with research. You can search for a subject, department, or course number to find relevant databases and library research tools.

Finally, I watched I Am Not Your Negro, a 2016 documentary based on an unfinished manuscript by James Baldwin. I have read and discussed Baldwin’s novels and speeches in multiple university courses, and valued this opportunity to expand my understanding of his life and perspective on race in the United States. The documentary is available on Netflix, and several of Baldwin’s books are in the University Libraries’ collections.

As my final year as an undergraduate student gets closer and closer, I’m getting more and more excited to learn, to challenge myself, and to work for positive change on campus and beyond.
