The exhibition “Countless Possible Routes” tests the walk as an investigative tool and research method, discovering the ways that spontaneous, unregulated, or everyday moments can create meaning in landscapes. This work recenters bodily experience as the primary registration of the urban realm, recording the impacts of the experiential environment on the psyche. Walks traversed various layers of the Roman city and were captured through the creation of GPS maps, impressional sketches, linear drawings, and photography.
The exhibition is the culmination of the 2022 Roger Martin Travel Fellowship. The Roger Bond Martin Travel Prize is annually awarded to a landscape architect to allow early career professionals to pursue foreign or domestic travel as a means to further their professional development. It is intended to enhance the recipient’s skills in observation of, participation in, and understanding of diverse cultural perspectives, differing responses to local environments, varied aesthetic expressions, and a range of technical solutions to environmental problems. This fellowship is made possible by generous donations and is facilitated by the Martin Fellowship Committee, the Department of Landscape Architecture, and the Minnesota Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
