Join us for an engaging opportunity to learn more from the 2024 Dr. Linda Mack Schloff research award recipient, whose work uses materials at the the Upper Midwest Jewish Archives at the University of Minnesota Libraries. Bring your lunch and learn more from Montrie about his current research exploring the history of ‘blackface’ minstrel show caricature during the twentieth century in Duluth, Minneapolis, and St. Paul.
Join Dr. Yolanda Williams and PaviElle French, two beloved culture bearers of the Twin Cities Black music community, as they recall the path and people that have led to their becoming composers of songs for the people. This event continues a series of intergenerational discussions between African American creatives and is co-sponsored by Givens Collection of African American Literature and Life, the University of Minnesota School of Music, More Than A Single Story discussion series, and the In Black Ink publishing arts initiative.

Gorman Art Books, Media, and Artist Archives at the University Libraries, will lead the conversation with Steven Albahari, Founder of 21st Editions, and accompanying panelists, Pam Clark, Production/Office Manager at 21st Editions; Crissy Welzen, Graphic Designer; and John Mettoyer, Educator, Poet, and Photographer.

The Queer & Trans Zine Conference will be held on Friday, Oct. 18, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elmer L. Andersen Library, home of the Tretter Collection in GLBT Studies. This all-day, in-person conference takes place in conjunction with the Midwest Queer & Trans Zine Fest, held at Open Book in downtown Minneapolis, Oct. 19-20.
The University Libraries will be well represented at the 24th annual Twin Cities Book Festival — the annual Minnesota gathering for readers, writers, publishers, and purveyors of all things literary — with staff and swag on hand from the Kerlan Collection of Children's Literature, the Upper Midwest Literary Archives, Minitex, and the Friends of the Libraries.
