Inspired by President Lotus Delta Coffman’s statement in 1936 that: “Someday, the University of Minnesota will have a Student Union as the center of its social life,” construction of a student union began in 1939 and Coffman Memorial Union opened its doors for the first time on October 4, 1940.
About Great Hall at Coffman Union
Known for its art-deco décor and historic design, the Great Hall is the largest facility in Coffman Memorial Union. This extraordinary event space is equipped with its own prep kitchen, restrooms, tech booth and a spacious annex great for pre-event registration or reception area. The versatile Great Hall hosts events from performances to career fairs and banquets.
