Check the Libraries for your textbooks? Save money!

  • In partnership with the University Bookstores, the University Libraries are excited to be able to provide you with a list of U of M textbooks held in the library ebook collection for the Fall 2015 semester. You can use this book as your primary textbook or use it on days you don’t want to bring your textbook to campus or read during an unexpected free hour. See our ideas about how to use University Libraries’ resources and services to help you save money.

Explore our 12 libraries. Study! Study! Study!

We have libraries on East Bank, West Bank and St. Paul. Explore our libraries in the first few weeks on campus to find places to:

  • Take a break between classes (napping optional),
  • Use a computer to study (or check Facebook),
  • Get some reading done
  • Meet a friend or study group
  • Grab a cup of coffee
  • Use your U Card to check out a fun book to read or DVD (Fault in our Stars, anyone?)
  • Eat lunch and read a newspaper or magazine

Use our website for research

When it is time to start on that first research paper–our website is the place to start. Our Library search box will help you to find scholarly articles, books, and more.

  • Use our Assignment Calculator to stay on track. Just enter your due date for a research paper, video, speech, or lab report. We have broken down the big steps for research and writing and give you the date you should try to get it done with links for help and support along the way (like from the Center for Writing or the SMART Learning Commons tutors)
  • Our Library Course Pages jump start your research by bringing together course specific academic databases and resources built by the librarian for that course and department.

Say hi during Welcome Week!

Say hi to us at Welcome WeekExplore U of M day on Friday, September 4. We will be hosting the Academic Survival in Action! Open House in Magrath Library at the St. Paul campus. Learn to make grilled cheese with an iron, play Mario, take a #bookface or try our photo booth – with props from our Archives.
