Halloween Games at the Toaster: A Virtual Reality Workshop Event

Calling all game gurus and thrill-seekers! Ready to swap textbooks for joysticks? Summon your inner ninja with Fruit Ninja or channel your inner rockstar with Beat Saber. Or, take the Halloween thrills to the next level with some scary virtual reality games and experiences! Join us Friday, October 18 from 4:30pm – 5:30pm in the Virtual Reality Gaming Corner Campus at Walter Library, basement level.

Creepy Crawlies: Halloween Pop Up Exhibit

Drop by the Wangensteen Historical Library of Biology and Medicine on Wednesday, October 30 anytime from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the Phillips-Wangensteen Building Room 2-330.

We’ll be featuring all things crawly, scaly, slimy, and many-legged. Don’t forget to pick up new Wangensteen stickers and take a selfie with the Plague Doctor! Free. All are welcome! Bring a friend! No registration required.

Trick o’ Reading: A Dark Academic Reading Study Break

TrickoReadingHave you heard of a reading party? Do you like dark, gothic novels? Horror? Romantasy? Trillers? Mysteries? Join us on Wednesday, October 30 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and spend a cozy afternoon relaxing and reading in the unique Upson Room (room 102) in Walter Library!

Bring a spooky book to read, select one from a pop-up library of fun books, try the Libby app or just come hang out with fellow readers including student representatives from the University Book Club. Free. All are welcome! Bring a friend! No registration required.

Drawing Autumn Botanical Art – A Study Break

Leaves and botanical drawing.Do you like cozy fall foliage? How about gothic or maybe even eerie botanical images? Join the staff from the Andersen Horticultural Library for a hands-on exploration of botanical art in the atmospheric Upson room in Walter Library (room 102).

We get introduced to the world of botanical art through an exploration of Andersen Horticultural Library’s collection (at the UMN Arboretum in Chaska, Minnesota). Then the drawing will begin with exercises that emphasize the importance of looking closely at intricate details of natural autumnal specimens. Free. All are welcome! Bring a friend! No registration required.

Spooky Game Night in the Virtual Reality Studio

Celebrate the season and explore virtual reality at Game Night! Try your hand at popular virtual reality games like Beat Saber, Job Simulator, Superhot, plus some scary games like Phasmaphobia and Propogation VR. No VR experience? No problem–we’ll teach you how to use the headsets, and you’ll be a pro gamer in no time. Join us on Friday, November 1 from 4:30pm – 6:30pm in the Virtual Reality Studio (Health Sciences Education Center 5-132).
