Don’t miss the pizza!
Got 15 minutes to spare? Come learn how you can use Primal VR at home with a borrowed headset to study anatomy in 3D virtual reality. Attendees can come and go at any point during the hour.
Learn how to operate a 3D printer and make your ideas a reality! During this workshop you can expect to learn about the applications and limitations of 3D printing, how to safely and effectively operate a machine, and how to start your very own 3D print! Feel free to stay after to start a project of your own!
Every student experiences stress, and it’s important to find your strategies for taking care of yourself. In this workshop, we will use an app called Hoame to experience a guided meditation exercise. You will also learn how you can borrow a VR headset if you decide to make this part of your strategy. These VR for Stress Reduction workshops are not intended to be professional therapy or medical advice. To locate these services for students, staff and faculty, see z.umn.edu/personalwellbeing.
Learn how to operate a laser cutter and vinyl cutter! During this workshop you can expect to learn about the different use cases of digital cutting machines, how to safely and effectively use them, and how to make your own custom designs! Feel free to stay after to do a project of your own!
Celebrate the end of the semester on Thursday, Dec 18 from 3:15-4:30 p.m. and learn about the unique archival collections in Andersen Library on the west bank. The University of Minnesota has rich collections of archives in collections including the history of the University to children’s literature to African American literature to immigration history and more – even Sherlock Holmes!
Take this opportunity to get an introduction to these collections, Andersen Library and more. We will start in Andersen Library atrium for an overview then explore our current exhibits on your own.
Learn about using the citation management software, EndNote, to import citations, customize your account, and format your bibliographies and in-text citations. EndNote is a powerful tool that can help you save time, stay organized, and collaborate effectively as you write and publish research papers.
We will discuss using EndNote in conjunction with EndNote Online, a web-based version of EndNote freely available to current University of Minnesota students, faculty, and staff. The workshop is open to all disciplines.
Join us on Wednesday, January 24 for an online workshop which will provide an overview of the cornucopia of library resources and services available to UMN graduate students. You’ll learn how to effectively find scholarly materials and how librarians and other library staff can assist you to succeed at UMN.
Open to everyone but strongly recommended for first-year graduate students! Open to all disciplines including those in the sciences, social sciences and humanities.
This workshop for graduate students will provide an overview of the publishing process. We will cover the basics of: peer review, copyright, types of journals, costs of publishing, and "predatory" journals.
Meet with fellow learners on Zoom and learn how to use Zotero to create your own database of citations, PDFs, images, webpages, video and audio files and more. Zotero can then be used to create citations in a large number of citation styles (APA, MLA, CSE, endnotes, footnotes, etc.) which can be added to Google Docs, Microsoft Word and Libre Office. Zotero is a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, annotate, cite, and share research. The workshop is open to all disciplines.
This session will show you how to make the right choice for your research. We will discuss how to identify potential journals and what factors to consider before you submit. We will also describe the peer review process and how journal quality is assessed.
This session is part of our Nuts & Bolts of Academic Publishing series. These are aimed at students who are at any stage of their graduate program or new faculty or instructors and are looking for more information on all stages of the publishing process. The focus will be on publishing in scholarly journals and is open to all disciplines.
