Explore virtual reality, make fun summer crafts, and learn about the Libraries Creation and Innovation spaces at Bring Your Kids to Play Day!

We will have activities for children ages 5 and up. Please note that young children may not fit in the virtual reality headsets (but they can still make!).

Book talk, ‘Legacy Lost: Passing Across the Color Line’

Join us on Aug. 14 for a special lunch-hour discussion of the recently published book “Legacy Lost: Passing Across the Color Line.” The author, S. Barbara Hilyer, is a descendant of Andrew Franklin Hilyer, the first African American graduate of the University of Minnesota and the first of three generations of University of Minnesota graduates. While the Hilyers once had deep connections to famous mill town families like the Pillsburys and Gales, they would eventually leave the Twin Cities and part with their African American heritage. Until now.

JabRef is a citation manager with native BibTeX support and is perfect for text-based typesetting systems like LaTeX. This workshop will cover the very basics of collecting, editing, and organizing citations, and how to troubleshoot common issues. You'll have the foundation to customize the system to your liking and needs.
