If you've ever wanted to learn about audio recording or podcasts, this is the workshop for you! Come learn about the different types of audio equipment you can use to record (including ones for free checkout at the U of M Libraries!) as well as methods for planning, preparing for, and editing your recordings. Staff will be on hand to answer questions, do small demos, and provide you with resources to use as you embark on your audio adventure. Podcasting 101 will be a hybrid workshop.

This workshop will cover: learning from a quant about the value of the Bloomberg Terminal on the job; practicing on the terminal in small teams to access data and do project analysis; learning how MFM and FQF help prepare you for Quantitative Finance/Data Science jobs. This is an important resource to have access to on campus, with two terminals on the East Bank at Walter Library.

The Kerlan Award Committee, led by chair Alex Genis, has selected two recipients of the 2023 Kerlan Award to be presented on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023 at Elmer L. Andersen Library: Laurie Hertzel, former editor of the Star Tribune Book Review and past president of the National Book Critics Circle; and award-winning artist/writer Lauren Stringer. This hybrid event takes place in person and online.

Please join us on Oct. 12 to celebrate the launch of Dianna Hunter’s latest publication, “Clouded Waters,” a mystery/romance novel set in what we now call the Mesabi Range in Minnesota, published by Holy Cow! Press. While reading, Dianna will be accompanied by local musician Lisa Kane. Following the reading, we will have the opportunity to explore the Dianna Hunter Papers collection, which is archived in the Tretter Collection at the University of Minnesota Libraries. The collection’s curator, Aiden Bettine, will be available to help guests explore the papers, and enjoy a tour of the Tretter Collection housed in the Elmer L. Andersen Library’s geology-friendly underground caverns (pre-registration required).
