Come to the First Annual Midwest Queer & Trans Zine Fest on Oct. 21-22, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Celebrate LGBTQ History Month by joining us on the second floor of the Open Book Building in downtown Minneapolis. The Midwest QT Zine Fest brings together queer and trans artists, zine makers, collectives, and small presses to share their work with zine enthusiasts and LGBTQ community members. Over 70 local and regional exhibitors will have their work for sale, ranging from hand made zines to small-run publications.

VR for Stress Reduction: Meditation

Every student experiences stress, and it's important to find your strategies for taking care of yourself. This is a part of a series of workshops on VR for Stress Reduction, this one being focused on meditation. In this workshop, we will use an app called Hoame to experience a guided meditation exercise, and you will learn how you can borrow a VR headset if you decide to make this part of your strategy.

Travel the World with Google Earth VR

We will share the latest updates on the August 2022 White House Office of Science and Technology Policy memorandum “Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research.” No policies have changed yet, but funding bodies have been releasing guidance and drafts of plans that will be in place by the end of 2025.

Join us to learn more about federal mandates around public access to articles and data, how agencies are responding, what this means for researchers here at the University of Minnesota, and how the University Libraries can support researchers who are required to make their research publicly accessible.

This workshop is for anyone but would be useful for College of Design students in particular. In this workshop, you will learn how to convert a Sketchup model into a virtual environment, sketch in 3D using Open Brush and Gravity Sketch, and you will hear about various apps for design: Sentio VR, Arkio, and more!

If you've ever wanted to learn about audio recording or podcasts, this is the workshop for you! Come learn about the different types of audio equipment you can use to record (including ones for free checkout at the U of M Libraries!) as well as methods for planning, preparing for, and editing your recordings. Staff will be on hand to answer questions, do small demos, and provide you with resources to use as you embark on your audio adventure. Podcasting 101 will be a hybrid workshop.
