This is drop-in working session for individuals working on a video project. The Libraries Media Services staff will help individuals work through challenges they are facing or answer questions pertaining to video creation.
In this workshop, we’ll demonstrate the basics of finishing a 3D print, including sanding, filling gaps, priming, painting, and basic weathering and texturing techniques. Participants will practice sanding with guided instruction to ensure a smooth finish—you are welcome to bring your own prints for sanding, or you may use a provided practice print.
In this workshop, we will demonstrate how to use Bodyswaps, a tool for UMN students, staff and faculty to practice job interview skills and other interpersonal skills. This can be a start of your self-paced journey to become more confident applying for jobs and internships! Bodyswaps uses virtual reality to place you in a realistic setting where you talk to an avatar, and it can give you feedback such as whether you're coming off too confident or not confident enough. It tracks your head movements and body posture to give you advice about non-verbal communication.

Every student experiences stress, and it’s important to find your strategies for taking care of yourself. In this workshop, we will use an app called Hoame to experience a guided meditation exercise. You will also learn how you can borrow a VR headset if you decide to make this part of your strategy. Join us on Dec. 11 for an evening of music, archival exploration, and learning about the life of Werner Simon, who documented his life and escape from Nazi Germany in the 1930s. The evening will feature a small exhibit of archival materials from the Werner Simon papers in the Upper Midwest Jewish Archives, a presentation on Simon’s life by UMN student Ryken Farr, and a brief musical performance on Werner Simon’s Guadagnini violin housed with the School of Music.

Celebrate the end of the semester on Thursday, Dec 18 from 3:15-4:30 p.m. and learn about the unique archival collections in Andersen Library on the west bank. The University of Minnesota has rich collections of archives in collections including the history of the University to children’s literature to African American literature to immigration history and more – even Sherlock Holmes!
Take this opportunity to get an introduction to these collections, Andersen Library and more. We will start in Andersen Library atrium for an overview then explore our current exhibits on your own.
