Join us on April 27 for an evening of learning about the myths of Jewish migration, as viewed through the life story of David Blumenfeld, whose papers are archived in the Upper Midwest Jewish Archives. Guests will enjoy presentations by two of Blumenfeld’s family members, Professor Deborah Hertz and Frederick Hertz, with introductory remarks by Robert Hertz. Blumenfeld’s original manuscripts and his self-published books will be on display.

Author Jane King Hession will discuss her recent book — relaunching now in its paperback edition — “Elizabeth Scheu Close: A Life in Modern Architecture.” Guests will enjoy a reception with light refreshments, and an exclusive opportunity to view photos, architectural illustrations, and other documents about Elizabeth Scheu Close.

Meet with fellow learners on Zoom and learn how to use Zotero to create your own database of citations, PDFs, images, webpages, video and audio files and more. Zotero can then be used to create citations in a large number of citation styles which can be added to Google Docs, Microsoft Word and Libre Office. We will send a zoom link to students who are registered the day before the workshop.
Have you heard about impact factors, h-indexes, or other metrics used to describe a researcher's work? Do you know what these numbers actually mean? This workshop will explain journal-level and author-level metrics and discuss what they can — and can't say — about the quality of research.
